The Man in My Life

The Man in My Life

There used to be a time when I couldn't sleep, couldn't eat
And thinking about you just made me weak

I couldn't close my eyes nor open my mouth
Thought I'd lose you in the process, somehow

It's funny how a fool in love is
Wanting nothing in life but to be his

I've matured way past life's maturity
And found out that you mean so much to me

Now today I stand, a whole new woman
Married to the man I spent my life following

No regrets, still in love until the day I die
Because you're a real man, and I can't lie.

Let Us Love

Let Us Love

We came into this world
dreaming of love.
We grew up fantasizing
emphasizing, categorizing love.

Love is that which has awakened us,
that which has overtaken us.
It is what we have prayed
to God for.

Love is a glorious gift
of the spirit.
Love is a sweet, assuring voice
even when we cannot hear it.

Love is faith, and faith is love,
often unseen, always rising above.
Love brings us
to a unified place.

Love waltzes into chaos,
becomes a saving grace.
Never letting go of the promise,
let us hold fast to love.

Greeting uncertainties of tomorrow
let us hold fast to love.
Let us know who holds it,
believe who controls it.

Let love shape us
day by day.
Let love teach us
the importance of our stay.

This love, ordained for two,
this love betrothing me to you.
Let us love to and from
a sacred place.

Let us be disciples of love
when love cannot be traced.
If doors appear shut
as we walk through life, let us love.

If stars fail to shine
as we stumble through night, let us love.
Let us love forward
when society steps backward.

Let us love more
when laughter occurs less.
Let us love faithfully and deeply.
Let our love be truth boldly confessed.

Let us love in every triumph and trial,
summon love for each test.
If love be our guide,
ours shall be a love blessed.

A Love

A Love

This is a love poem
and I'm writing it
like Whitney would sing it
in mezzo-soprano
with highs and lows
filling heart and soul.
Men and women
ladies and gentlemen
“Let’s stay together.”

In love, let’s be a lyric
paint the sky red
and fly rockets to bed.
Let’s melt into a melody
hang from cliffs in climax
screaming scats in pure ecstasy.
I told you
this
is a love poem
you’ve been warned.
Let’s be a long, strong ballad
get lost in baby-making sighs
soft echoes and love cries.

Let’s be united
synchronized
let’s be baptized
emerge as two hearts
two souls
one love.
Let’s sit on the rock
and feel God
receive His blessing
flow in His anointing
read His handwriting
on our walls.

Let’s pray
for a more perfect
union
that we might rule
together
enjoy dominion
forever.

I can be
God's Eve
corrected
you can be
His Adam
redirected
together
we can be
love
perfected.

In love
about love
all for love
to love
beyond love
above love
me for you
and you for me
that’s the kind of love
our love
should be
A His kind of love
an our kind of love
Etta’s “Saturday kind of love”
when “your love is my love”
and our love is
this love
It’s a love
it's a love
always will be

a love.

After You've Been

After You've Been

You gently bathe my heart in love
When I hear you utter those sweet words

Can my seemingly satisfied soul live again
After you've been?

You intoxicate my streams of passion
As I feel an agonizing heat from your passing

Freud's philosophy cannot explain
This sultry, but sensual joy you bring.

You are the essence of my life's beauty
As you yearn to fulfill a delicate duty

Of being my very on clandestine keepsake
Resounding echoes of the love we make.

You in the absence of titillating touch
Come to me faintly revealing much

Of the ties that bind us through and through
Giving testimony to a love exceedingly true.

You sacredly adorn these weary walls with joy
Radiating silent smiles, my anguish to destroy

One precarious look, one gratifying glance
Sets my fiery spirit in motion qualifying the romance.

You give new meaning to love's immortal law
Loving me incessantly, forgiving without flaw

Can my seemingly satisfied soul live again

After you've been?
